Event Highlights - 2008

March

  • We had a booth at the Rocky Job Fair

May

  • Sponsored an on-line historical workshop prior to the Rupert's Land Colloquium.
  • Catered lunches and snacks at the Colloquium.
  • Operated a gift shop at the Colloquium.
  • Organized a Fur Trade Banquet and Ceilidh with Scottish folk singer Maggie Christl and a silent auction to close out the Colloquium.
  • Received the Alberta Heritage Society of Merit (see sidebar).

July

  • Held a Canada Day Barbeque at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site and at the evening performance at the North Saskatchewan River Park.
  • Sponsored the Edmonton House Brigade at the Historic Site. This volunteer group comes each year to the Site, camps, prepares food and gives demonstrations of Fur Trade life. Black powder shooting is a popular demonstration.

October

  • Our twenty fifth anniversary celebration as a registered society. We hosted a performance by folk, Celtic, bluegrass artists, Lizzy Hoyt and the Blue Crown Express. This event included a pie auction featuring 25 pies for 25 years. These homemade pies were donated by local caterers.

Award of Merit

Group receives award of merit

In May of 2008 we received the award of merit from the Alberta Historical Society. This was for the work our society has done to promote and preserve the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site.
